A Grand (Finale) with the Parade

The last thing that we did as a family for Fiesta Days was the grand parade on Saturday morning. We have been before (many, many times over the years), but each year since our first child, it has become much more special and fun. It's a delight to see her reactions and for her to be so excited for all of the floats and surprises. Each time a new attraction is coming down the way, she gets excited and says there is "more parade coming!" Before the parade started this year, there was a flyover of some pretty cool airplanes—it sure set the mood for a great event!

Each year, we always have bagels and cream cheese for breakfast and we set up chairs in a specific spot that affords shade and is close to the action (not that a parade is so far away not to be close to the action). This year, we introduced a new addition of homemade breakfast bagel sandwiches, and we are convinced that this should become part of the regular menu!

The best part about the parade is the tradition: being with family, enjoying the artistry and the presentations, and celebrating the legacy and heritage of the pioneers and settlers who trekked west to find religious freedom and new opportunities.

Next year, we hope that we get to do the fireworks—then it will be a true grand finale!
