A Southern Utah Adventure

A couple years ago, Cassie's family decided that we should go on an annual vacation. It started when Cassie's brother returned from his mission and his mother wanted to essentially capture him so that he would have no choice but to spend time with family. We all agreed to it and thus began the tradition.

Last year was in St. George and this year we were in St. George again, just in a different Airbnb than last year. Once we had decided where we would be going and when, Cassie wanted to extend the vacation and focus on doing things with our daughter that we may not get to once the remainder of the family came. It turned out to be a great idea, as the things we did in the beginning would not have happened at the end.

On the way down, we finally visited Cove Fort, after many times passing by. It was satisfying to see a part of church history and what it meant to those who lived in the past—and to see how they lived and innovated. The fort had everything to be self-sufficient at the time, including food supplies, blacksmith, mail service, and even an ice house to keep ice blocks year-round.

While in St. George, we were able to go to the all-abilities park (Thunder Junction with a dinosaur theme), spend some time in the pool and sun, visit the winter home of Brigham Young, and explore the Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm.

When the rest of the family arrived, everything kicked up to top gear. We just have so much fun together and enjoy doing whatever, both planned and impromptu activities. We always try to have fun and interesting activities planned, and sometimes it works out, while most of the time much of what makes the planning list doesn't pan out.

The first thing we did was go to the Cliffside Restaurant, which spectacularly overlooks the city and surrounding areas. The food was great and the company was equally great. A lot of the time, we ended up just spending time together in the Airbnb rental, watching TV, playing billiards, swimming and hot tubbing, etc.; but we did venture out with different sets of different people with a slingshot rental, shooting at the gun range, and driving through Snow Canyon.

All in all, it was a massive success, everyone had fun, we brought and consumed too much food, and are already looking forward to our next family adventure.
